Sundown with AFFC: Breaking Bread with Female Founders Building Africa’s Future
Exactly one week ago, the Africa Female Founders Collective (AFFC) hosted Sundown with AFFC, an intimate founder dinner created to foster connection, learning, and collaboration among female founders building scalable businesses in Nigeria and across Africa.
Held in collaboration with Atije by Chef Moyo, a women-led culinary experience powered by a fully female kitchen team. The evening brought together 20 female founders around a shared table to break bread, exchange insights, and build community.
Introducing the AFFC Founders Circle Sundown with AFFC marked the first public unveiling of the AFFC Founders Circle, a curated community for high-growth female founders set to officially launch in early 2026. Designed as a founder-first space, the dinner prioritised depth and conversations, creating room for honesty about the realities of building, operating, and scaling ventures in Nigeria.
A Cross-Sector Room of Builders The founders in the room spanned agritech and food production, fashion and beauty, healthcare, hospitality, femtech, event tech and SaaS, logistics, sports, and media industries collectively worth billions of dollars across Nigeria and the African continent. The diversity of sectors reflected the economic breadth and leadership impact of women founders shaping Africa’s future.
Founder Spotlight: From Setup to Exit A defining moment of the evening was a Founder Spotlight fireside conversation with Tomi Majekodunmi, who shared her journey building Bankly from setup to acquisition- offering rare, unfiltered insight into trust-led fintech, leadership trade-offs, and the true cost of scale. Reflecting on leadership and culture, Tomi emphasised the importance of uncompromising standards at the top: “Never compromise on your A-team or leadership hires. The moment you do, culture starts to break—often faster than you expect. Don’t be apologetic about seeking the absolute best and most skilled talent for your leadership team.”
Her reflections resonated deeply with founders navigating growth, people decisions, and long-term sustainability.
Policy Clarity for Scaling Founders The evening also featured a timely conversation on Nigeria’s evolving tax landscape, led by Precious Emeka-Egonu, Associate in Tax Practice at TEMPLARS. The session offered practical clarity on the new regulatory changes which takes effect at the start of 2026, and what they mean for startups and scaling businesses—reinforcing AFFC’s commitment to pairing community with actionable insight.
Why Rooms Like This Matter More than a dinner, Sundown with AFFC reaffirmed the need for spaces intentionally designed for founders—not at them. Spaces where women can speak candidly, learn from each other’s journeys, and build power collectively. This gathering was just the beginning...
What’s Next As AFFC prepares to launch the Founders Circle in 2026, Conn3ct dinners and intimate convenings like Sundown will continue across African cities, bringing together women founders at critical stages of growth.
